Two new Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga (NPM) grants have just been announced!

2015 - 2016 SUMMER INTERNSHIP GRANT

Applications have opened once again for NPM's annual Summer Research Internships.

This successful programme is designed for Māori or Indigenous students who are interested in pursuing a career in research.

Students work under the direction and guidance of a senior researcher and on an existing research project which is aligned to the research plan of Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga.

As in previous years ten internships will be made available and will cover the summer period from mid-December 2015, through to the end of February 2016.

Phase one of the application process is now open, which requires senior researchers to submit their proposal to NPM for the project work that will be carried out over the ten week period.

All project proposals must be received by 4pm, Monday 7th September. Submit your proposal here

The final projects will be selected from the submitted proposals and students will then be asked to apply for the actual internships.

These student applications will be open from 18th September through the Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga website. So stay tuned!

CONFERENCE ATTENDANCE GRANT

The 8th Southern Connection Congress will be held from 18 – 23 January, 2016 in Punta Arenas, Chile and NPM is joining with the Congress itself, to offer a partial grant for early career researchers to attend and present at this event.

This congress brings together researchers working in the natural sciences sector from across the Southern Hemisphere and around the world - and focuses on the sustainability of species and ecosystems and reviewing the latest state of the art research approaches and results.

The last Southern Connection Conference was held in NZ, back in 2013, and the worlds scientific community is looking forward to next years conference in this vibrant Chilean city.

The research areas of the 2016 Congress include Ecosystem and Population Ecology, Conservation Biology, Antarctic Ecology and Biodiversity, Bio-cultural Conservation and many other complementary research areas.

The value of the grant to attend the congress is $4500 and it is focused on early career researchers involved in NPM projects or our research network who wish to submit abstracts and then attend the conference.

Applications are open from 12th August and close at 5pm on 17th September. Read more about the Southern Connection Congress and then apply via the NPM website
