NPM is delighted to announce 50 tauira (students) as recipients of its new mid-year 2020 NPM internships and scholarships, which have been designed to support tauira and enhance research outcomes in these uncertain times.

In early August many of the confirmed recipients gathered in person at NPM's Waipapa Marae based secretariat, and also online from sites around the country, to be welcomed and meet each other enabling whanaungatanga, connection and the sharing of their stories. This begins their exciting programme of work through to the end of 2020.

Each of our 17 Matariki New Horizons Interns are supervised by NPM researchers to undertake a research project that has relevance to Māori in the face of a fast changing and challenging COVID-19 environment.

The 33 remaining Doctorate, Masters and Honours Completion Scholarship Awardees are from multiple institutions throughout Aotearoa and are supported through NPM's COVID-19 Tautoko Strategy to complete their theses or dissertations over the coming months.

Together, these 50 awards invest in Māori research, our future Māori academics, researchers, professionals and entrepreneurs who will contribute to the vision of Māori leading New Zealand into the Future.
