Exploring culturally responsive vaccine delivery for Māori: A kaupapa Māori framed review of literature

Overview

This internship project was a targeted literature review adopting a Whakapapa research methodology to explore the facilitators and barriers of immunisation for tamariki Māori in NZ. 

The rationale of exploring the vaccine landscape for tamariki Māori was to help inform a culturally safe and responsive model for the delivery of a strep A vaccine candidate in NZ. Tamariki Māori have historically low engagement in immunisations, stemming from multifactorial reasons – validating the need for this research before the implementation of a strep A vaccine. A thematic analysis of the included literature revealed several themes encapsulating the facilitators and barriers of immunising tamariki Māori in NZ.
