My research is to investigate and explore the on-going growth and popularity of ruku kai (diving). As Māori, our beliefs, values and history contributes an extremely large knowledge base in regards to engaging with the realm of Tangaroa. Therefore, my research seeks to amplify the importance of mātauranga Māori within the practice of ruku kai for mauri ora (wellness).
My passion for Tangaroa and the moana continues to flourish with both practical and theoretical interaction. As a keen free diver myself, I nourish the limited time we are granted through one breath within the depths of the moana. I further acknowledge and believe that mātauranga Māori strongly provides spiritual protection when engaging in the sacred pressence of ngā atua (Māori deity).
