Overview

This project is in support of Te Whakatōhea iwi vision, and their mana Māori motuhake, having Food Sovereignty at the forefront of this here Mahi Rangahau, with complements and supporting evidence of climate change.  The internship project was a precursor to a project funded by HRC on climate change Tohe Ora Wānanga Whenua led by Associate Professor Te Kahautu Maxwell.

The intern took a snapshot of all mōteatea audio and recordings at archives and libraries with a focus on kai that contribute to Te Whakatōhea kaupapa on Kai Sovereignty through Tohe Ora Wānanga Whenua. Through the project, the intern collated narratives with regard to kai to inform the Whakatōhea kai sovereignty programme to help descendants to return to the whenua and plant maara kai which will enhance the health and wellbeing of the iwi.
