Neihana Matamua (Massey University) recently completed his summer internship working on the project Seeking pathways to mauri ora for tāngata Māori with long-term conditions.
In this project he was focusing on the first stage of a wider project (also funded by NPM), arranging and participating in the intimate interview process, which looked into the experiences of Māori living with long-term health conditions (LTHC).
Te Kooanga Uetuhiao Te Owai Awatere-Reedy (Victoria University of Wellington) - has been working as an NPM and Borrin Foundation Intern on the project Te Akinga: a Māori law treatise.
With supervision provided by Dr Carwyn Jones, Te Kooanga has been conducting research that will help to frame the development of tikanga Māori within the practice of law in Aotearoa New Zealand.

NPM Principal Investigator, Dr Jason Mika (Ngāi Tūhoe, Whakatōhea, Ngāti Awa and Ngāti Kahungunu) from Massey University's School of Management has received this year’s Fulbright-Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga Scholar Award, which will see him visit Stanford University and the University of Arizona.
The Fullbright-Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga Scholar Award is for a New Zealand academic, artist or professional to lecture or conduct research at a United States institution in the field of Indigenous development.
Ngāpera Keegan (Ngāti Apakura and Ngāti Hikairo) received the 2018-2019 Te Pītau Whakarei Karahipi summer scholarship, which is offered in partnership with the Cawthron Institute based in Nelson.
Ngāpera is at Waikato University, studying towards a Bachelor of Science majoring in Environmental Science and over the past few months has been working on a project that examines the behavioural ecology of scampi, and aims to provide new knowledge on optimal growing conditions and animal welfare for scampi in aquaculture.
Applications are now open for NPM's annual two-day media training workshop in Auckland, in partnership with the Science Media Centre.

From the 11th - 14th February more than 30 of Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga’s senior researchers including our leadership team and new Board Chair, Kerensa Johnston, were based at Rānana (Ruakā) Marae on the Whanganui River, for our annual Principal Investigators Wānanga. For four days, we came together within the valley of the Te Awa Tupua o te Whanganui, the majestic river valley, deeply embedded in the living energy of the generous communities.
Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga (NPM) is delighted to announce that Kerensa Johnston (Ngāti Tama, Ngāruahine, Te Atiawa, Ngāti Whāwhakia) has joined New Zealand's Māori Centre of Research Excellence as Board Chair in 2019.
Kerensa brings with her a wealth of experience in the corporate world as well as an academic rigour that will be essential in continuing to move NPM forward into an exciting and challenging future.
