“Whatukura: a computer based model of the human eye” is a long term research project in which Dr Jason Turuwhenua and his research team are aiming to produce optically and biomechanically functional computer eye models. Through such modelling he expects to increase our understanding of the eye and its diseases, and hopes to provide enhanced clinical diagnostics and interactions with patients.
The aim of this Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga supported project has been to develop computer infrastructure that the team has in turn applied to create a graphical tool for patient education. Jason will present results to date around this project and some exciting possibilities for future work.
He will discuss some ideas around the idea of "Enhancing Māori Distinctiveness" that have arisen out of the project.
Jason (Ngāti Porou, Ngāi Tūhoe) is a Research Fellow who has a joint appointment with The University of Auckland’s Auckland Bioengineering Institute and the Department of Optometry and Vision Science.
The seminar is followed by afternoon tea and discussion.
