NPM E-PĀNUI PIPIRI | JUNE 2024

With the arrival of Matariki, our NPM whānau took some much needed time to rest and reflect - remembering those who have passed, celebrating the present with loved ones, and looking forward to the coming year. With kai being so central to Matariki, some of us may have needed to get in some extra steps once the celebrations were over. Kaimahi and tauira Māori at The University of Waikato had no shortage of extra steps, collectively clocking up thousands of kilometres in the annual ‘Hīkoi in Hune’ event to honour the life and legacy of their late colleague Dr Paora Mato.

Meanwhile, excitement continues to build around NPM’s International Indigenous Research Conference that will take place in Tāmaki Makarau in November. The call for abstracts is being met with a flurry of proposals from around Aotearoa, and indeed the world. We are thrilled to announce that prominent Aboriginal writer and academic Marcia Langton will be IIRC’s opening keynote (see more below). Watch this space for more announcements on IIRC keynotes as we profile them here in the lead up to the conference.
